Summer is almost here, which means it’s time to start planning. With so much going on throughout the summer months, it doesn’t take much to fill up your weekends, and in Prosper, Texas, you have many options. The area hosts festivals in the summer and offers activities for the entire family, and there are many places you can go to for a quiet summer afternoon. Take a look at some of the best summer activities and events going on in and around Prosper this summer.
Little Elm Craft Brew & Que
Little Elm Craft Brew & Que is heading back to Little Elm Park on June 3, with the event starting at 4 p.m. This is the eighth year of this fun festival, and you don’t want to miss it. This year, it’s bigger than ever, and there are even more activities for you to do. You can stop by to sample beer from some of the best breweries and wines from local wineries, and you can also enjoy a barbecue from some of the best Texas pitmasters as well as some shopping. There’s also a kid zone with activities for the kids and contests, and the event all wraps up with a firework show you don’t want to miss.
You can enjoy live music from Blue Water Highway, and you can also catch a show featuring Joey Green in addition to the headlining show from Mike Ryan. Some of the competitions will include stein holding, hot wing eating with burning questions, guess the beer, mechanical bull riding, and hot pepper eating.
Tickets range from $10 to $100, and parking is free. If you get a VIP ticket, you can head to the VIP tent, where you’ll find tables, fans to keep you cool, and extra BBQ appetizers. This ticket also comes with a special pass for beer and wine sampling and even dedicated bathrooms. There will be over 500 different beer selections and over 45 different wineries providing samples.
Holistic Festival of Life and Wellness
The Human Embrace and Mystic Mandala will host the Holistic Festival of Live and Wellness for the 17th year on June 11. It takes place at the Plano Event Center from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This is the largest holistic festival in North Texas. If you’re looking for spiritual health, physical well-being, and mental clarity, this is the perfect festival for you. It features pranic healing, yoga, meditation, chakra balancing, herbal nutrition, aromatherapy, Reiki, massage, astrology, psychic readings, and much more.
Throughout the day-long event, there’ll be eight hours of yoga classes, six hours of fitness classes, and 24 different wellness talks. Make sure to head to the main stage for music and dance performances, and don’t miss the clothing swap.
2023 Bluegrass on Ballard Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show
Take the short drive to Wylie, Texas, on Saturday, June 24, for the 2023 Bluegrass on Ballard Car, Truck, and Motorcycle Show. If you have a vehicle to show, or if you just want to go see the cars, trucks, and motorcycles, this is the perfect summer activity for you. Registration is open to all cars, trucks, and motorcycles, and there are 29 different classes to enter, with prizes for first through third places. There are also Best Modern Car, Best Truck, Best Classic Car, and Best Motorcycle awards.
You can only register if you want to enter your vehicle. If you’re going as a spectator, it’s free. The event runs from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., giving you plenty of time to see everything on display.
The Bluegrass on Ballard will also be going on in Wylie all day long. This free festival starts at 10 a.m. and features top bluegrass bands, arts and crafts, lots of food, and children’s activities. If you want to join in the fun, make sure to bring your instrument, and you can jam with other musicians throughout town.
Visit the Heritage Farmstead Museum
A visit to the Heritage Farmstead Museum in nearby Plano, Texas, is a must this summer. This living history museum features animals, a walking path, and historic properties that you can explore. During your visit, you can see the farm animals, find out how people used to wash laundry before there were washers and dryers, feed chickens, and learn how to plow and plant the fields.
The museum has enclosed and open-air exhibits to showcase local North Texas history. The furniture and items in the museum are from the Victorian era, and most of the items belonged to the Farell-Wilson family or other prominent Plano families.
Tickets are available at the museum entrance and range from $5 to $15 per person. Museum members always enjoy free admission and can get discounts on special events.
Enjoy Frontier Park
Frontier Park, right in the heart of Prosper, is a great place to spend the day. It’s home to many activities for the entire family, including playgrounds, hiking trails, a splash pad for the kids, and more. The park is open from sunrise to sunset, giving you plenty of time to explore, relax, and enjoy the area.
The park has lighted baseball fields, softball fields, and soccer fields, and there are lighted batting cages and bathrooms inside the brick pavilion. The snack shop offers hot dogs, chips, candy, and drinks. The splash pad opens on Memorial Day weekend and stays open until Labor Day. If you want to rent a pavilion for a family event, you can check the availability and start the rental process from the Prosper Parks and Recreation website. The athletic fields are also available for rent.
The pond at Frontier Park is available for catch-and-release fishing, and there are trails at the park for hiking and biking. The Windmill Playground is a community-built playground with big wooden structures. It features unique climbing and balancing features and is perfect for kids of all ages, including the little ones.
