The holiday events in and around Prosper, Texas, are fun and memorable. Kids and adults can enjoy various fun activities, spend time with family members and friends, and meet other members of the community. Here are some of the best holiday events for you to enjoy this season in the Prosper, Texas, area.

The 55th Annual Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot

The 55th Annual Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot happens about 40 minutes away from Prosper on Nov. 24, 2022. This event includes an 8-mile race that starts on Young Street and goes through downtown. Then, the course goes past the Reunion Tower, over the viaduct bridge onto Oak Cliff, and to the finish line at City Hall Plaza. There are restrooms and water stations throughout the course. You can walk or run, and the fastest participants can get medals or awards. You can even bring your dog along.

There’s also a 5-kilometer race that starts at City Hall, goes through downtown, and ends in front of the Pioneer Plaza and the Dallas Police Memorial. Kids aged 6 to 12 can enjoy a 1-kilometer Junior Trot. It starts at 8:15 a.m. so that parents can see their children run before participating in the adult Turkey Trot. Kids who register for the Junior Trot can also participate in the adult event at no additional charge.

If you can’t make it to the Turkey Trot in person, you can still participate in a Virtual Trot at home. The proceeds from this fun Thanksgiving event help fund YMCA community health programs for kids and adults.

Location: Dallas City Hall, 1500 Marilla St., Dallas, Texas.

Hours: Registration on the day of the race starts at 7 a.m., and the first race starts at 8:15 a.m.

The Prosper Christmas Festival

The Prosper Christmas Festival is a fun, free annual event that starts with a Christmas Parade through downtown Prosper. It also offers food, entertainment, shopping, rides, and fun contests. There’s a 2,000-square-foot skating rink, pony rides, horse-drawn carriages, a petting zoo, carolers, and more. The festival hosts businesses, nonprofit organizations, families, and artisans. You can also enjoy Community Stage performances with local talent, a Kids’ Christmas Shoppe, and Santa’s Workshop. Proceeds benefit the Parks and Recreation Scholarship Fund, and this event ends with the annual Community Tree Lighting. There’s a countdown to the tree lighting and fireworks when it ends.

Location: Prosper Town Hall, 250 W. First St., Prosper, Texas.

Hours: The Prosper Christmas Festival happens on Dec. 3 from 3 to 7 p.m., and the Prosper Rotary Club Christmas Parade starts at 2:30 p.m.

The Light Park

The Light Park is in Arlington, about an hour away from Prosper. It’s a drive-through Christmas light show that’s a mile long, and you’ll go through a long tunnel made from millions of Christmas lights. You can also tune your car radio to a special Christmas station. Kids and adults can enjoy watching snowflakes, snowmen, Christmas trees, and more, and they’re all made of colored lights that flash in rhythm with holiday tunes.

The Light Park only permits personal vehicles, and you can’t sit in truck beds while going through the tunnel. You can take your dog as long as it stays inside your vehicle, and you can take as many photos and videos as you like. However, there’s no parking, and you can’t normally get out of your vehicle and walk around or share rides. There are some portable toilets near the entrance, but you should only use them in emergencies.

On weekdays, going through the Light Park usually takes about half an hour. It’s often more crowded on weekends, so the drive can take around an hour. The Light Park opens even when it’s raining. You can save money by buying tickets online, but a limited number of tickets are available at the gate as well. Group rates are available for parties with more than 25 cars.

Location: Hurricane Harbor, 1800 East Lamar Blvd., Arlington, Texas.

Hours: The Light Park is open from Nov. 4 to Jan. 1 from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on weekdays and from 5:30 to 11 p.m. on holidays and weekends.

The Annual Great Turkey Skate

The Annual Great Turkey Skate happens in Allen, Texas, about half an hour away from Prosper. It includes a variety of fun games with prizes, including turkey bowling. Admission costs $5, and skate rental is $3. You can get a free skate rental if you donate a non-perishable food item. Food donations benefit All Community Outreach.

Location: The Allen Community Ice Rink at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center, 200 E. Stacy Road, Suite 1350, Allen, Texas.

Hours: The Annual Great Turkey Skate happens on Nov. 16 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Hollydays Market

Hollydays Market is in Plano, about half an hour away from Prosper. It has more than 100 merchants, and it’s an ideal place to find unique Christmas gifts for friends and family members. This market offers gourmet food, holiday decor, handmade items, and fashionable clothing. Visiting it is a great way to support local businesses.

For the entire weekend, you can get complimentary photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus at the photo booth. This market will also have plenty of great concession stands. You can even enjoy wine while you shop. Parking is free, you can take a stroller, and kids aged 12 and under get free admission.

Location: The Plano Event Center, 2000 E. Spring Creek Parkway, Plano, Texas.

Hours: Hollydays Market runs Oct. 21 through 23. It’s open from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
