2024 Toyota RAV4

The small SUV market is hotly contested, but the Toyota RAV4 has been at the forefront of this class for almost three decades, and the 2024 model continues that trend. Its unique rugged styling creates a sense of adventure, and its capability and available torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive (AWD) system meet that expectation. The 2024 RAV4 is now available at Longo Toyota of Prosper in Texas, and here we look at what makes it one of the best-selling vehicles in the compact SUV class.

Exterior Styling

For 2024, the RAV4 carries forward unchanged. It’s offered in LE, XLE, XLE Premium, Adventure, TRD Off-Road, and Limited trim levels, each with distinctive characteristics. With its aggressive front-end styling, elegant profile, and sporty rear, the RAV4 stands out from its run-of-the-mill rivals. Helping smooth your way are an integrated rear spoiler and aerodynamic underbody panels with vortex generators.

The RAV4 LE features remote keyless entry, LED headlights and daytime running lights, 17-inch steel wheels, rear privacy glass, LED taillights, and dual chrome exhaust tips. With the XLE, you get alloy wheels, touch-sensor door handles, color-keyed heated power mirrors with turn signals, and roof rails.

Higher-spec trims offer features such as active grille shutters, model-specific 18- or 19-inch wheels, a power moonroof, and a power liftgate. The Limited trim has chrome accents, signature lighting, mirror-mounted puddle lamps, and the option of a hands-free liftgate. The TRD Off-Road gives you unique rugged features such as black trim, a skid plate, larger overfenders, all-terrain tires, and red-painted shocks.

Power and Performance

Under the hood of every RAV4 trim is a 203-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops 184 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The RAV4’s small size makes it easy to navigate around town, while its smooth power delivery and comfortable ride give you a refined highway driving experience. Most trims have standard front-wheel drive with AWD as an option.

With up to 8.6 inches of ground clearance, the RAV4 gives you more off-road capability than many other small SUVs. The Adventure and TRD Off-Road models feature an upgraded AWD system with selectable terrain driving modes. They also have dynamic torque vectoring for enhanced traction and rear axle disconnect that helps boost fuel efficiency under normal driving conditions.

With front-wheel drive, the RAV4 mpg is up to 27 for city driving and 35 on the highway. For AWD models, the figures are 25 and 32 mpg, respectively. Standard RAV4 trims can tow up to 1,500 pounds, while the torque-vectoring AWD models give you a towing capacity of up to 3,500 pounds.

Spacious and Stylish Cabin

The RAV4’s roomy and upscale interior surrounds you with high-quality materials. The sculpted seats offer comfort and support that make even the longest road trips a pleasure for front and rear passengers. Behind the second-row seats, you have 37.6 cubic feet of space for your gear. Folding down the 60/40-split rear seats gives you a generous 69.8 cubic foot cargo area. The low, height-adjustable cargo floor makes for easy loading and unloading. Plenty of trays, pockets, and bottle holders throughout the cabin provide storage for everybody’s personal items.

In the base LE model, you’ll find fabric seating with a six-way adjustable driver’s seat and a four-way passenger seat to help you find the perfect position. Interior features include a digital speedometer, a 7-inch multi-information display, climate control, a tilt and telescopic steering column, an electric parking brake, a soft-touch dash, and LED front reading lights.

Moving up the trim levels gets you features such as Smart Key entry, push-button start, simulated leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Adventure and TRD Off-Road trims offer model-specific interior upholstery and accents and a 120-volt power outlet in the cargo area for powering up your electrical items. The luxurious Limited model features a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Technology

Keeping you connected and entertained on the road is the standard Toyota Audio Multimedia system. It features an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth for hands-free calling and media streaming, voice command, and a six-speaker sound system with satellite radio. Up to five USB ports and two 12-volt power outlets allow you to keep your devices charged.

Each RAV4 model gives you a trial subscription for Wi-Fi Connect with a Wi-Fi hotspot and integrated music streaming capability for Amazon Music and Apple Music. Stepping up to the TRD Off-Road gets you a 10.5-inch touch screen, while the range-topping Limited trim offers wireless phone charging and a premium JBL 11-speaker audio system with a subwoofer and amplifier.

Safety Features

The RAV4 helps keep you in control with innovative safety technologies. The standard Star Safety System includes electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, and Smart Stop. You also get hill-start assist and trailer sway control.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 is a suite of driver-assistance features that offers radar cruise control, forward collision mitigation, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, lane departure mitigation, and automatic high beams. Optional for the LE and standard on other trims are blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic warning. The Limited model also gets front and rear parking assistance with automatic braking.

RAV4 Reliability

If you’re considering buying a small SUV, you probably want to know, is the RAV4 reliable? The short answer is a resounding yes. Toyota vehicles are renowned for their reliability and often appear at or very near the top of reliability surveys. Toyota offers extensive new car warranty cover, including a 36-month or 36,000-mile basic cover, a 60-month or 60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and 60-month restraint and corrosion warranties.
