Prosper is home to several unique and charming family-friendly parks. With 469 acres of open space, there is a multitude of activities that everyone in the family can enjoy. From playing sports like softball or soccer to enjoying the serene natural settings, these community parks do not disappoint. While we’d like to feature all of them, we’ve chosen to feature three of the most popular running trails in Prosper’s community grounds.

Folsom Park

At 19.7 acres, Folsom Park is one of the 10 largest parks in the city of Prosper. Families can enjoy watching their kids play soccer on the lit soccer field or relax on a bench while their kids expend their energy on the entertaining playground equipment. This park is perfect for you if you need to catch a quick run in the morning before work or enjoy an easy jog after a long day.

Location: 901 White River Drive, Prosper.

Frontier Park

Frontier Park is a neighborhood sports complex and is ideal for sports enthusiasts. With softball and baseball fields, batting cages, and a fun splash pad, this park truly has something for everyone. If you enjoy the hustle and bustle of a large neighborhood park, then you’ll want to add this concrete trail to your running calendar.

Location: 1551 Frontier Parkway, Prosper.

Lakewood Preserve

Another activity-friendly neighborhood park, Lakewood Preserve features soccer fields, pickleball courts, a sand volleyball court, and more. The running trail travels along the perimeter of the park so that you can get a view of the natural open spaces. While you can loop around the trail, you can also change your running routine a bit by taking a shorter trail that goes around a large pond adjacent to Lakewood Preserve. If you enjoy running in the late evening, lights from the sports fields will be on, making it easier to view your surroundings.

Location: 2621 Meadowbrook Blvd., Prosper.

Scenic Trails

It’s no surprise that Prosper and its surrounding areas offer some of the most amazing scenery. There are trails full of flowering plants, bushy trees, and large looming hardwoods. You may even get to run alongside a creek or river and enjoy the sound of the bubbling water. If you would like a scenic view while on your daily run, check out these Prosper area parks and trails.

Crape Myrtle World Collection Park

This seven-acre park that opened in 2011 is well known for its extensive collection of breathtaking crape myrtle trees. In fact, it features all known species and varieties of crape myrtles throughout the world. When it comes to scenery, not much can beat this picturesque display. Wide walking paths weave throughout the park, and there are informative signs that explain the various crape myrtles planted here. After your run, take in the beautiful view while you cool down with a walk through the pathways or rest on one of the several benches.

Location: 6452 Collin McKinney Parkway, McKinney.

McCord Park

McCord Park runs along the Cottonwood Creek floodplain and takes you through a charming landscape of grassy open spaces, heavy tree cover, pedestrian bridges, and a winding creek. This 38-acre park is ideal for a relaxing run. Along with the picturesque trails, you can also play a game of disc golf on the 18-hole course, take the kids to the splash pad, or let your dog run free through the dog park.

Location: 1900 FM 423, Frisco.

Ray Roberts Lake State Park

A natural outdoor playground, Ray Roberts Lake State Park features a 20-mile multi-use trail plus so much more. The trail is split between horse riders and hikers, runners, and rollerbladers, with 12 miles of the trail set aside for horses and 10 miles marked specifically for pedestrian use. The 20-mile trail runs along the Elm Fork Branch of the Trinity River, so you’ll have a fantastic view throughout your run. Some of the paths are paved, while the rest are groomed dirt trails.

Location: 100 PW 4137, Pilot Point.

Greenbelt Trails

Greenbelt trails, also known as greenbelt corridors, are areas of land with fields or parks that are strategically placed around neighborhoods or small cities. They are meant to act as a buffer between towns, especially fast-growing neighborhoods, in order to keep some of the land permanently open. By law, a greenbelt designation means no homes or factories can be built in these spaces. Prosper has several greenbelt trails. Consider visiting the ones listed below soon.

Chapel Hill Hike & Bike Trail

With open spaces and a large nature area, the Chapel Hill Hike & Bike Trail allows hikers, bikers, and runners an opportunity to get in some exercise within a large Prosper neighborhood. The trail consists of 2.6 acres, so if you want a productive run, you can simply jog through the Chapel Hill community. When you’re done with your run, be sure to stop by Sugarcoated Custom Desserts for a sweet treat.

Location: Between Chapel Hill Drive and Crown Colony Drive, Prosper.

Lakes of La Cima

Surrounding the Lakes of La Cima community are two trails that are ideal for biking and running. They’re the Lakes of La Cima West and Lakes of La Cima East trails. The west trail runs between the Willow Ridge neighborhood and Lakes of La Cima, while the east trail begins at Folsom Park and follows Coit Road. If you prefer not to run the whole trail or simply don’t have the time, you can begin at either the east or west end and then run through La Cima Boulevard.
