Christmas Lights in Prosper, TX: Neighborhoods and Town Events
Prosper's holiday season mixes decorated streets you can tour on your own schedule with one big town celebration. Check current town announcements before you go.
Prosper Christmas Festival and Town Holiday Events
The Prosper Christmas Festival is the Town's premier annual event. It runs Dec. 5, 2026, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Prosper Town Hall, 250 W. First St., and it's free. The community tree lighting with Mayor David Bristol is at 7 p.m.
Kids can visit Santa's Workshop for free family photos.
There's an ice-skating rink, plus kid zones with inflatables and a snow machine, and cookie decorating.
Face painters and balloon artists work the crowd, and a community stage hosts live performances.
You can join Adopt-an-Ornament, see decorated, lighted exhibits and watch a Prosper-themed drone show.
Questions? Call 972-569-1160 or email events@prospertx.gov. Festival hours are separate from when surrounding decorations stay lit, so plan your after-dark viewing separately.
Prosper Neighborhood Lights
For a quieter evening after the festival, head to the Prosper Tunnel of Lights on Beechwood Drive in the Whitley Place neighborhood. Started in 2018 by the Judd family, this local favorite features a walk-through tunnel of lights that leads up and around the cul-de-sac. Neighborhood displays are set by residents, so viewing times vary; drive slowly, stay on public sidewalks and keep the noise down.
Drive-Thru and Ticketed Light Shows Near Prosper
Two of North Texas’s biggest ticketed light shows sit within an easy evening drive of Prosper. Once you’re in line, plan on 30 to 45 minutes for the drive itself, and since weekend slots and lines fill up fast in December, buy tickets online in advance.
The Light Park at Riders Field (Frisco)
Just down the Dallas North Tollway at Riders Field, 7300 Rough Riders Trail, The Light Park is a drive-thru light show open seven nights a week, rain or shine, from November 6, 2026, to January 3, 2027. Hours are 5:30 to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 5:30 to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with extended hours (until 11 p.m.) on Thanksgiving Day and December 18 to 26, then 5:30 to 10 p.m. from December 27 to January 3. Check the official site for current ticket pricing.
Prairie Lights (Grand Prairie)
Prairie Lights at Lynn Creek Park on Joe Pool Lake in Grand Prairie (5610 Lake Ridge Parkway) is one of Texas’s biggest holiday drive-thrus, open every night from November 26 to December 31 starting at 6 p.m. The two-mile route winds past more than 5 million lights, animated displays and themed lands. Halfway through, you can park and stroll Holiday Village, where admission includes free carnival rides and a redesigned walk-thru light forest, alongside concessions, holiday shopping and photos with Santa (an extra fee, nightly through December 23). The drive ends in a dazzling LED light tunnel.
General Admission works well on weeknights, while a limited number of Fast Pass tickets get you a dedicated entry lane on busy weekend nights.
Free Town-Square Displays
Free town-square celebrations are the easiest way to see Christmas lights in North Texas without a ticket. Several are covered in detail below, and these are also worth a visit:
Christmas in the Square in Frisco
Home for the Holidays in McKinney
Christmas on the Square in Celina
The Colony Christmas Spectacular
A Garland Christmas on the Square
Highland Park Village in Dallas
Whistle Stop Christmas in Cleburne
Residential drive-bys are free too. Just respect posted restrictions and never enter a yard or driveway.
Christmas Lights in Nearby North Texas Towns
Most town squares light up between Thanksgiving and the first weekend of December. These nearby towns offer big-city festivities without the big-city crowds.
McKinney: Historic Downtown Square and Tucker Hill
Historic Downtown McKinney, 111 N. Tennessee St., hosts two holiday weekends worth planning around.
Home for the Holidays (Nov. 27 to 29, 2026): This free festival kicks off the season, with select rides and attractions as the only paid extras.
Friday runs 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., with the community tree lighting at 6:15 p.m.
More than 180 local shops open for Small Business Saturday.
Streets in the festival area close to traffic, so use the free shuttle, running about every 15 minutes from First McKinney Baptist Church, 1615 W. Louisiana St. (no shuttle on Sunday).
Parade and Caroling (Saturday, Dec. 12, 2026): Downtown celebrates again two weeks later.
The 27th Annual McKinney Rotary Parade of Lights steps off at 4 p.m. It’s free and family-friendly.
Caroling on the Square runs from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Dr. Glenn Mitchell Memorial Park, 300 W. Louisiana St. It’s free, but registration is required.
For a quieter, classic look, drive or stroll through Tucker Hill, a McKinney neighborhood near Highway 380 and Stonebridge Drive, where homes glow with warm white lights, wreaths and red ribbons on nearly every door. Residents hold a best-lights competition that’s usually decided by mid-December, so displays are in full swing by the end of the first week of December, and the neighborhood’s lights have also helped raise support for the American Heart Association. It’s free and an easy 15-minute drive from Prosper.
Frisco and The Star
Christmas in the Square at Frisco Square, 8874 Coleman Blvd., is a great free stop, now in its 21st year. You'll see over 180,000 lights and 200 dancing snowflakes set to 10 songs. Tune to 107.3 FM in the car or hear the music through speakers on the Square.
It runs nightly from 6 to 10 p.m., Nov. 20, 2026 to Jan. 4, 2027, and it's free.
Skate the Square, the outdoor ice rink, begins Nov. 20.
Santa visits and horse carriage rides are listed.
December Friday to Sunday evenings add train rides, bounce houses, balloon artists and outdoor movies.
At The Star in Frisco, 9 Cowboys Way, the Dallas Cowboys host the annual Cowboys Christmas Extravaganza, a free 20-minute show on Tostitos Championship Plaza. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders kick things off, a Cowboys legend lights The Star’s 67-foot LED Christmas tree, and 66 game-day performers, including Rowdy and Santa, join in a light show synchronized to original Christmas music, finished with pyrotechnics. Last season’s ninth annual show ran every Friday and Saturday at 6 p.m. from November 21 to December 20, with Gene and Jerry Jones and family joining the finale. Admission and on-site parking are free. Watch The Star’s events calendar for the 2026 schedule, and arrive early for a good spot on the plaza.
Celina Historic Downtown Square
Celina’s free Christmas on the Square returns to the Downtown Square on Wednesday, December 2, 2026, from 5 to 9 p.m., with a small-town, Hallmark-movie feel just minutes north of Prosper. Expect live holiday performances, local artisan vendors, fair-favorite food and Santa’s Workshop, with the community tree lighting at 8 p.m. Park in the Downtown Parking Garage, find limited downtown parking or take the free shuttle, which runs from 5 to 10 p.m. from GA Moore Middle School and Celina High School.
Plano Neighborhood Hotspots
Westridge Drive in Plano has a synchronized light show, and the whole street joins in at the Westridge and Custer junction. Park and walk from there.
Texas Light Displays Worth a Road Trip
If you don’t mind a longer day, these displays make memorable full-day road trips. Fort Worth’s Gift of Lights is about an hour from Prosper, while Round Rock and Seguin are three to four hours south, so plan an overnight or a weekend getaway for those.
Road trip: Northern Lights in Seguin runs nightly from 6 to 10 p.m., Nov. 27, 2026 to Jan. 2, 2027, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve, rain or shine. One ticket covers one car load.
Road trip: The Light Park in Round Rock is in the Dell Diamond parking lot, Nov. 6, 2026 to Jan. 3, 2027. It's ticketed and experienced from your vehicle.
Road trip: Gift of Lights at Texas Motor Speedway, 3545 Lone Star Circle in Fort Worth, takes you on a two-mile drive past 3 million lights and glowing tunnels, including a stretch into the speedway itself. The posted schedule runs November 26 to January 3, Friday and Saturday 6 to 10 p.m. and Sunday through Thursday 6 to 9 p.m., with extended holiday hours (6 to 10 p.m.) December 20 to 27. One ticket covers your whole vehicle, and buying online ahead saves time.
Pair any longer outing with a meal stop, and plan for queues.
How to Plan Your Family Holiday Light Tour
A little planning turns a crowded night into an easy one. Build your route around confirmed hours, and keep it short rather than chasing a checklist.
Best Times to Go, Crowds, Traffic and Parking
December weekends between 7 and 9 p.m. are packed, while a weeknight in the first week of December, or the week after New Year’s, is much calmer. To beat the holiday rush entirely, go early: The Light Park in Frisco opens November 6, and most town-square displays light up from Thanksgiving weekend on.
For parking, arrive early, use the lots around downtown squares and ride the free shuttle during McKinney’s Home for the Holidays.
Sample One-Night Prosper Light Tour Route
This plan works for young children and starts at home.
Start at the Prosper Christmas Festival on Dec. 5 from 3 p.m. and stay for the 7 p.m. tree lighting.
Take a dinner or cocoa pause nearby.
Head to Christmas in the Square, open nightly 6 to 10 p.m., for the music and lights. It's a short drive.
If the kids still have energy, add The Light Park in Frisco, open until 11 p.m. on Saturdays.
Finish near home, with kids ready for bed.
Etiquette and Kid-Friendly Tips
Respect residents' property and stay on public sidewalks.
Keep headlights low and engine noise down.
Don't block driveways, and drive slowly around pedestrians.
Make sure child safety seats are properly installed.
Take breaks to avoid winter driving fatigue.
Bring pajamas and blankets, and pack snacks. Plan restroom stops too. A car-friendly playlist helps.
Play a "spot the display" game to keep little ones engaged.
